2018 Ho'ike

Abby's hula teacher, Sheba, always gives out multiple leis and recognizes people in the audience for all kinds of different reasons.

Andy was called up this year and she praised him for being such a wonderful father.
I agree :)

Abby participated in three dances this year...
The first one was with the ipu gourd...

...and the pu ili bamboo sticks.
(It's so hard to get good pictures at these things.  It's always a packed house and the seating is not ideal.  I wish there was another free venue that could be used with better seating)

The second one was a traditional samoan dance...the sasa.

It depicts the work day of the Samoan women...

To give some of the girls time to change in between dances they called up some of the men in the audience, put lavalavas on them and taught them how to do "fruit salad".
Andy was, once again, lucky enough to be chosen :)
He was thrilled!!!  (Haha)

Bless Carol Hansen's heart...her hair was in the way the whole time...it's a good thing I love her :)

They were each given a pineapple for their participation.
As we were leaving the performance, a guy walked up to Andy and said, "I don't know who you are but you won!" :)

The last of Abby's dances, and always most popular, was poi balls...

Love this hula girl of ours!
It's always a joy to watch her dance.
She's been going strong for 9 years now!
