May Odds and Ends and a Crazy Night for Abby

A couple of snuggly pics on a Sunday evening after having the fam over...

Abby brought home a "real care" baby for her adult roles class.  She only had little Maui for one night which was probably a good thing :) She was an attentive little Momma!

The kids had a piano recital coming up and I realized their teacher had scheduled it on her birthday.  I don't think that was her first choice but it was the only day that worked for most of her students.
I felt like we should make it special for her so I contacted another mom and she had a sign made and I got balloons and flowers and arranged with their teacher's husband and the scheduling lady at the fine arts building to take everything in and set it up before she got there.

You wouldn't believe the issues I had with those balloons!
Walking them from the car to the building wrapped them all around themselves creating one big mass of 25 balloons for me to untangle.

It was supposed to remain anonymous but Annette found out and was very grateful :)
I'm glad I went to the trouble.

Abby had quite a night...she drove separately up to the recital, got lost and almost in an accident.
When she arrived and found out she was toward the end of the program, even though we had specifically requested she be early on so she could leave and get to her guitar concert at the school, I texted their teacher with no response so I just had her change places with Matt on the program.  That wasn't even as soon as she had wanted but she played beautifully and then rushed out.  It was just me, Matt and Ben left.  Andy was out of town for work and my parents were in Oregon.  Ben was being a little pill and so as soon as Matt finished we left.  I went to a drive through and got food for the boys and told them I was going to run into the school and see if Abby's concert was still going (It was a beautiful, cool day so leaving them in the car with the windows down was not a problem.)

I had been in touch with Andy and he was going to make it back into the valley in time to see part of Abby's concert.  As soon as I walked in I noticed Abby, standing on the stage with a friend ready to sing!  I found Andy, sat down and listened to my daughter sing with more confidence than she ever had on stage before.  This was the third time she had done this to us...sang without letting know she was going to.
That was the last number.  I'm sure glad I decided to try and catch part of it.
As soon as it was over, Abby rushed out to try and make it to her YW activity which was a camp kickoff that she had helped plan and was partly responsible for.
Andy and I were speaking with Julie Delgado in the auditorium when I got a call from Abs.  She was almost in tears and had been in an accident in the parking lot.  We ran out and found her.  Poor thing!  The family she had backed into was very kind and understanding.  They had already called the police and he was on his way.  The only problem was we couldn't find the insurance card for Abby's car.
I ran home to try and locate it before the policeman showed up.  Luckily our new ones had just arrived a few days before in an envelope I didn't really recognize because the company had changed hands.  I didn't know they were in there but I opened it up hoping for a miracle and there they were.
I rushed back over to the school right after the policeman had arrived and got it into their hands in time.  It wasn't a problem that it was about a month before it took effect :)

I was in touch with one of the YW leaders and told her Abby was going to be late.  She said they would try and hold off as long as possible.  I was also presenting at this activity (It was kind of a scavenger hunt so they were coming to our house) so things were high stress for sure.
Abby finally made it home and hurried and changed again and tried to compose herself for her next activity.  I felt so bad for her!  It had been such an evening full of stress and drama.  She did it though and we all made it through in one piece...phew!

  1. Oh, my goodness, what a night! That was very thoughtful of you to acknowledge Annette's birthday!
So sorry we weren't around to help with the challenges of that evening!
