I had a friend who was getting married the first week of December ask me if I would do her bouquet and the groom's boutonniere. He requested a certain kind of rose...we couldn't get that one exactly but were able to match the color pretty well. The couple just wanted white flowers with the light lavender rose. This combination of white stock, mini lavender carns and blue misty is what I ordered through Laura. I think it turned out looking pretty good.
I was supposed to drop the flowers off to the bride an hour or two before the wedding at noon.
Around 8 a.m. I got a text from her saying the wedding was postponed...the groom was sick.
After they got home from the hospital that evening I took the flowers over to them so they could enjoy them. She graciously payed me and they both told me how much they loved them. The groom in particular loved the scent. That made me happy since I had wanted to include stock for that very reason.
I struggled coming up with an ornament for gifts this year. Really late in the game,
I found a lot of these folded stars on Pinterest that I really liked...the ones that were done in fabric were almost all 2-D but all the ones made from paper had 3-D points. I really liked that look but knew I wanted to make them from fabric.
There were plenty of tutorials online so I finally sat down and tried to figure it out with paper strips. There were a couple of instructions that I got hung up on so I finally broke down and bought instructions from an Etsy shop for the 3-D fabric star. I'm so glad I did! She was super clear with her directions and made it very easy to follow. From there on out it was full force on the fabric ornaments. I went through my stash and also went and bought some other fabrics that would work.
I ended up really enjoying making these...it was kind of therapeutic...especially while watching a Christmas movie :)
I made approx. 130 ornaments. Between the prepping of the fabric, the folding and then adding the hanger and the bead, I figured each one took about 20-22 minutes.
These are some of my favorites...
I also really struggled with the Christmas card...contemplated not doing one this year.
However, an idea started to form...again, super late in the game and it evolved while we worked on it.
I asked Abby to draw our figures and she did a fantastic job :)
The only cookies I made in December were some baptism cookies for my nephew.
I actually branched out and did something different with my flavors...gingerbread and chocolate cookies with peppermint icing. I loved the taste!!!
The nephew getting baptized was the little brother of the niece that was getting married. The family decided to do the baptism the night before the wedding since all the family would be in town. Add onto those two big events the stress of remodeling their house, Christmas, and a father in law who was on the brink of passing away, it made for a very stressful time for the parents.
I also did some bouquets for the reception. I put them together right before and after the baptism. (I forgot to get any pictures of those :(
I had asked my sister in law if she thought it would be okay if I put a Christmas twist on the regular baptism cookies. She gave me the thumbs up! It was fun to try and design a holiday baptism set.
I felt like they were a little hurried and they could have been better, but again, I was really happy about the flavor :)
