Scrabble and Quilts

Today was my sweet Grandma's birthday.
The boys and I wanted to do something special for her.
Matt drew a card for her...
Matt said the "Y" was cold so it had a scarf around it's neck.
I like Grandma's house too.  I spent the first five years of my life in their basement.  I have fond memories of Grandma and Grandpa's home.  It's a peaceful place.  They often have classical music playing.  Grandma is a quilter so there is always a quilt up being quilted or in the works in the sewing room.  Consequently, you'd often find a surprise in the carpet or in the arm of the couch.  Let's just say she keeps you on pins and needles.  Grandma loves chocolate and would often share with you.  I seem to remember there always being a jar of Nutella in the cupboard also.  There used to be the softest, white carpet at the foot of her bed.  I remember burying my toes in its warmth.  The little laundry shoot in the hallway was magic and mysterious to me.  Another thing about Grandma is that she loves Scrabble.  This was the inspiration for my little gift.

I just glued some magnets on scrabble tiles and arranged them on a little canning jar lid covered with fabric.

I think she appreciated them.
It was fun to visit you today Grandma!  Happy Birthday.  We love you!

I've been wanting to post something else about Grandma and I think this would be the perfect day.
As I mentioned, she's a quilter...not just any quilter but a prize winning quilter.  She's amazing.
This is a quilt she made years ago and it was given to me as a wedding gift.

Mom had a quilt rack made to go with it.  We hung it up in our bedroom in our very first little apartment.  After about 10 months we moved from place to place and sadly, it stayed packed up.  Even after we moved into our current home there was never a very good place to put it...until we finished off our basement.  It now is hung right at the bottom of the stairs.  It's a beautiful welcome to our basement.

I'm so glad it finally has a place in our home where people can admire it as it should be.
Those cute little chairs on top were found by my sister in law at Hobby Lobby.  They look so cute up there.

I am honored to have such a treasure in my home.
